The Nigerian Coordinator of Nigerian Women in Agricultural Research for Development (NIWARD) with the UNN Mentors made a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor on the 26th of October 2016. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the Vice-Chancellor with the AWARD fellowship and fellows and to request for his support in hosting the 4th AGM of the NIWARD in 2016. NIWARD meeting brings together all the Nigerian AWARD fellows, mentors and mentees along with other stakeholders like representatives from Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria to deliberate on how to improve Agriculture for national development.
An awareness-making event was also held at the Faculty of Agriculture Lecture Hall the same day and the Vice- Chancellor was present to grace the event. The AWARD/NIWARD Coordinator, Professor Stella Williams, gave a presentation on (Thema’s Journey). The Chairman, Professor Benjamin Ozumba, Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria gave the opening remarks while the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Ngozi Nnam, presented a welcome address.
A talk on benefits of AWARD was presented by Dr Chinyere Okebalama (AWARD Fellow).
Dr. Ebele Amaechina (AWARD Fellow) coordinated the filling of AWARD Application forms and there was room for discussions. It was an educative and interesting seminar. The 4th AGM of NIWARD will be hosted by University of Nigeria, early next year.
